Joseph Marie Jacquard - Joseph Marie Jacquard (7 July 1752–7 August 1834) was a French silk weaver and inventor, who improved on the original punched card design of Jacques de Vaucanson's loom of 1745, to invent the Jacquard loom in 1804-1805. Jacquard's loom is controlled by recorded patterns of holes in a string of cards. Photosynthetic pigment - A photosynthetic pigment is a pigment that is present in chloroplasts or photosynthetic bacteria and captures the light energy necessary for photosynthesis. Lake pigment - A Lake pigment is a pigment made by precipitating a dye onto an inert substance, such as calcium sulfate. Many lake pigments are fugitive, due to the nature of the dyes involved. Jacquard loom - The Jacquard loom is a mechanical loom, invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard in 1801, which used the holes punched in pasteboard punch cards to control the weaving of patterns in fabric.
